Hyaluronic Acid: Should You Include This in Your Skincare Routine?
What is Hyaluronic Acid and Why Use It?
Hyaluronic Acid (HA) is a natural substance found in the fluids in the eyes and joints. It acts as a cushion and lubricant in the joints and other tissues. Different forms of hyaluronic acid are used for cosmetic purposes. HA might also affect the way the body responds to injury and help to decrease swelling. HA works in our tissues by binding and attracting water to them and with this it can help reduce wrinkles and improve skin elasticity
As we age our production of HA decreases. This creates wrinkles and less elasticity for us, thus causing our skin to age faster. Taking an HA product orally can decrease our aging process and has a host of other benefits for our bodies.
Forms of Hyaluronic Acid
There are quite a few ways you can take HA (either on its own or in combination products). There are many that are available over-the-counter. Some forms do need a doctor’s prescription, and some need a trained professional to inject/administer.
Over the counter includes
- By mouth: dietary supplements and pills, which include powders and liquid mix-ins
- On your skin: shampoos, lotions, creams, gels, ointments, and serums
- Eye Drops
Prescription methods include
- By injection: into your joints
- Under your skin: hyaluronic acid and collagen (a natural protein also found in your body) are approved for injection under your skin
- In your nose
- By inhalation or nebulizer
I personally take HA each day in a powdered liquid charger that I add to either my coffee or water. I have noticed in the few months since I have started I don’t bruise as easily, my skin is more hydrated and my fingernails are stronger and healthier.
How to Add Into Your Daily Routine
Adding HA into your daily routine, and how, depends on a few things. I feel most importantly would be what benefit/s you are looking for by adding this to your routine. Secondly would be the factor if you are an individual who can ingest products or not. I would suggest consulting with your doctor if you have any questions that you feel you want/need answers to, and if you are wanting to take as a daily supplement. I feel it’s always good to be safe when starting new things!

Powder is available in 2 different flavors and an unflavored. This is my go to as it works from the inside out.
At the end of the day my view on HA is that it has many different benefits that it may provide for you. It ‘s up to you to decide if the benefits are something you are looking for and worth the cost etc. Above I have included a few links to items I have personally tried, or currently use, that I have seen good outcomes with. Give HA a try and let me know what your personal thoughts and what your outcome . I’m always looking for opinions, whether positive or negative!
